For business and economics, Peking, Fudan and Renmin are strong. For agriculture, Zhejiang and China Agricultural University lead. For medicine, Fudan, Peking and Sun Yat-sen are well known.

Do universities in China teach in English or Chinese?
Most Bachelor's programmes in China are taught in Chinese, while many Master's and PhD programmes at top universities are taught in English. English-taught courses usually need IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or an English-medium letter. Chinese-taught courses usually ask for HSK 4 for Bachelor's and HSK 5 for Master's.
Students who choose Chinese-taught programmes often study one preparatory language year first. The HSK exam for Pakistani students page explains levels, fees and test centres.
Students taking English-taught courses can compare tests in the PTE vs IELTS page. Learning basic Mandarin still helps with daily life and internships.
How can Pakistani students check a Chinese university's recognition?
Pakistani students check a Chinese university's recognition by confirming it is accredited by China's Ministry of Education, checking HEC degree equivalence rules, using the PMDC recognised list for medicine and PEC rules for engineering. Checking before applying avoids degrees that cannot be attested or licensed in Pakistan.
- 1Check Ministry of Education accreditation. The university should appear on China's official list of higher education institutions.
- 2Confirm the programme is full-time and on campus. HEC does not accept most distance or online degrees.
- 3Medicine: check PMDC. The university must be on PMDC's recognised foreign institutions list.
- 4Engineering: check PEC. Confirm the degree meets PEC registration rules.
- 5Keep official documents. Save transcripts and the degree certificate for HEC attestation.
After graduation, degrees go through HEC attestation and equivalence. The HEC degree attestation page explains the process, and the IBCC equivalence page covers school certificates needed for Bachelor's admission.
How should Pakistani students choose a university in China?
Pakistani students should choose a university in China by matching their subject to the university's strength, checking world rank, confirming the teaching language, checking recognition in Pakistan, comparing tuition and city living costs, and confirming whether the university accepts CSC or offers its own scholarship.
- Shortlist five to eight universities across rank levels.
- Check each programme's language and test requirement.
- Compare total yearly cost, not tuition alone.
- Ask senior Pakistani students about campus life.
- Apply early, since many deadlines fall between November and April.
A mixed shortlist protects applicants. One or two top universities, three mid-ranked ones and two provincial choices give a realistic chance of at least one admission.
